It seems that we get calls every day asking what real estate prices are doing and about the real estate market in Destin. I think it’s safe to say that whether you were in real estate or in the stock market 2008 was not a great year and is one that most would rather forget. In researching the Destin market over the last 10 years I found that despite the lackluster performance of the 2008 real estate market there were some bright spots that should be celebrated. While you will rarely see the good new reported with the same vigor as the bad I found that the sales of 3 bedroom gulf front condos in Destin increased over last year as did the price per square foot. GREAT NEWS!!! Hey you have to start somewhere and this proves that people are still buying property in Destin. As we all know, the recovery will occur in pockets and while my crystal ball is broken and predictions vary as to the timeframe for a recovery we are fortunate that we have the world’s most beautiful beaches and the emerald green waters of the Gulf of Mexico drawing potential buyers into the market. Destin is a fantastic place to visit and a better place to live given our moderate year round climate, great fishing, some of the best schools in the country and unrivaled shopping, dining and golf. Those facts are among the reasons people give for wanting to make the move to Destin as either a resident or second home owner and are only a short list of the many reasons that I believe that Destin will be among the first areas to recover from this cycle. When? Your guess is as good as mine but I do know that I will be in the office every day working with you and for you and that we are in this together and now is not the time to give up.
